MILITARY SPECIFICATION
TANKS, HOT-DIP, DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY HEATED
This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the
Department of Defense.
SCOPE
1.
1.1 Scope. This specification covers electrically heated tanks for heat-
ing and maintaining selected working temperatures of preservatives, strip-
pable coatings, and sealing compounds with equipment and accessories speci-
fied herein.
1.2 Classification. This specification covers hot-dip tanks of the fol-
lowing types and classes. The types and classes to be furnished shall be as
specified (see 6.2.1).
Type I - Directly heated - External heater type
Class A - 100 to 225° F heating range
Class B - 100 to 400° F heating range
Class C - 100 to 600° F heating
Type II - Directly heated - Immersion heater type
Class A - 100 to 300° F heating range
Type III - Indirectly heated
Class A - 100 to 300° F heating range
Class B - 100 to 500° F heating range
Class C - 150 to 600° F heating range
1.2.1 Size. The size of the tank shall be as specified (see 6.2.1). The
